Philadelphia Flower Show Kicks of Paris in the Springtime

There may be 27 days until Spring, but for us in the North East, the Philadelphia Flower Show is the official kick off of the season.

With a theme of "Paris in the Springtime", the largest indoor flower show in the world opens in full bloom Sunday, March 6 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The Show boast 33 indoor acres, with 10 acres of exhibit space featuring exotic plants and eclectic designs, a market place with 150 vendors and dozens lectures. It's sheer delight for all the senes for the more than 250,000 people who attend annually.

Our nation's first Flower Show was launched in 1829 in an 82-by-69-foot building where 25 members of the newly founded Pennsylvania Horticulture Society showed off their horticultural treasures including a variety of exotic and native plants like magnolias, peonies from China, an India rubber tree, the Coffee Tree of Arabia, and sugar cane from the West Indies.

Some of our favorite plants - pointsettas and impatients, to name a few - saw their debut at The Show.

Revenues generated by the Philadelphia Flower Show help support PHS's Philadelphia Green, which has been working with other groups to transform Philadelphia’s communities and public landscapes into vibrant green spaces.

And we'll see you there,

It's going to be tres magnifique!

We're here with the new president the venerable Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, Drew Becher who is taking over after a long and successful run by Jane Pepper. And we can canned with Sam --that is Sam Lemheney, design director at PHS

With a French theme, they will create something oh! la! la!

Mark your calendars. March 6 -11, 2011.
