GMG's Friday Find: Don't Throw Out Wrapping Paper--Plant It!

An international seed supplier, a print factory and an innovation agency have combined forces to make Eden's Paper, a 100% plantable wrapping paper.  The paper is made from 100% recycled paper with organic seeds embedded on the back in seven layers of biodegradable tissue paper. No glue is used, and an embossing process adheres the seeds to the paper.  Even the ink used in the printing process is vegetable based.

You can choose from 5 wrapping papers to plant for future produce: carrot, broccoli, chili, tomato and onion.  More veggies are in the works of this Kickstarter campaign with the hopes of no-waste wrapping paper that will provide produce rather than trash. Here's how it works.

After you've unwrapped your special gift, peel off the front of the paper to reveal the seeds on the underside of the wrap.  Place the paper in soil and cover with more soil, water and keep moist for 7 days.  If you don't have the room for a large swatch of paper, just cut the paper into strips that will suit your needs.

If your winter climate doesn't allow for planting, just save the paper in a cool place until spring.

Who hasn't been discouraged with all the paper we buy to wrap gifts only to crinkle it up and toss in the trash, adding to our landfill problems.  What do you think of plantable wrapping paper?  Would you buy it and use it?  We'd love to hear your thoughts.
