GMG's Friday Find: Firework Fun-damentals

An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure, and with 4th of july fast approaching you probably have your weekend plans set in motion. If that includes fireworks here are some helpful tricks to help you keep your fingertips!

First, obey your local laws. Make sure that fireworks are legal in the state you are in! As we all know nothing ruins a party like the cops showing up!

Do not use fireworks indoors, even sparklers! Sparklers give off toxic gas and are of course a firehazard make sure to keep it outside.

Make sure you have a clear area, avoid vegetation, cars, and wooden decks.  A dirt lot or driveway works best as fireworks can leave lawn scars.  Make sure the area is level so the fireworks don’t fall over.  Have a bucket of water or your hose ready, or even a fire extinguisher if possible.

Never relight a dud firework, wait 20 minutes and soak it in water.

If you allow your children to hold sparklers, always keep a close eye on them! Children under 12 should not handle sparklers.
